To prepare for training camp with the Red Wings, I hired a skate doctor and experienced firsthand the power of precise, individualized training. I had spent countless hours at power skating clinics over the years, but it was those focused, personalized sessions that made a real difference. That experience transformed how I think about training.
Then there was the mental side—something I had no training in but desperately needed. Four games after training camp, a slapshot to the face fractured my skull. The mental toll during recovery was significant and gave me a new perspective on the psychological side of development.
When I began coaching my daughter, I saw a clear lack of both innovative skills training and mental fitness in hockey development. That’s why I started Headspace Hockey: to combine cutting-edge skills training with sports psychology, helping build confident, resilient athletes.
Athletes with a competitive spirit who are motivated to improve. The main thing is that your child actually *wants* to come and improve.
While we welcome various skill levels, each clinic is listed for beginner, intermediate, or advanced. Regardless, participants should have basic skating proficiency and a commitment to learning.
Cancellations made more than three weeks before the clinic start date will receive a full refund minus a 5% fee to cover the credit card transaction fees. No refunds are issued for cancellations within two weeks of the clinic. However! We do accept substitutions, provided we can speak with the substituting party first to ensure there is a fit.
This is very focused on them improving their skills. They'll improve their hockey techniques, and they'll also learn tips about their brains (very overlooked in youth sports). While the term "mental health" often gets associated with therapy, our focus is on mental performance and psychological skills training. This is about strengthening the mental side of the game—building confidence, focus, resilience, and emotional control. While these techniques can support overall well-being, the goal is to help athletes perform better on the ice. Your athlete doesn't need to be having a hard time with their mental health to benefit (but we'll welcome them if they are).

Yes, to ensure personalized attention, we limit each clinic to 12 participants. This allows for effective coaching and meaningful interaction. It's also why we're a bit more expensive than some.
For now, boys and girls will share the ice. We'll ensure the atmosphere is respectful and inclusive, and we'll work to mitigate cliques. We hope to launch female-specific clinics soon.
All camps are aged at 10U minimum. Check the top of the listing for the age minimum. We then group by skill level. This ensures camps don't have a huge variety in skill level, and has the added benefit of helping athletes learn from one another on the mental side of things. If you have a Mite/8U phenom who is a great listener, contact us and we will consider an exception.
Yes, parents are welcome to watch the on-ice sessions from designated viewing areas. We believe in transparency and encourage parents to see our training methods firsthand.
Safety is our priority. Coaches are trained in first aid and SafeSport certified, and emergency protocols are established. We require all participants to have up-to-date emergency contact information and you will be contacted immediately if an injury occurs.
Absolutely! ADHD, ASD, gifted kids, and 2E kids who can't sit still or are easily dysregulated are welcome to attend. If your kid struggles with focus, contact us first and we'll chat through the pros/cons.
We do not provide meals or snacks. Participants are encouraged to bring their own water bottles and any necessary snacks.
